So im still very new to fusion 360 and is my first attempt at any CAD software for that matter.

Ive come towards the end of my design and im now just tweaking a few things like fillets etc but im trying to add a fillet to an edge between a larger cylinder sitting on top of a smaller cylinder but it only seems to want to round one of the cylinders ends rather than joining the two together.

I realised that they werent one body and thought maybe thats why it wasnt working, i then tried to combine the two cylinders into one but fusion wont let me for some reason. Now ive got no idea what to try next. Probably a simple fix but like i said ive only been using the program for a couple of days.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Better answers if you share the file with File > Export, and add to a post in the lower section of the message page.

Are you using the time line?

Are the cylinders flush seated?

Can you make the second cylinder as a Join?

Better if we can see what you can see.

Sorry for the vague information, if you cant help no worries im sure ill figure it out somehow.

It's hard to tell from your screen shot, is that lower cylinder a patch surface or a solid?

Patch surface? Sorry im still learning. The lower cylinder is its own body seperate to the cylinder on top, there are three bodies in the one componant one of them is made from two bodies which i must of joined when extruding, but i cannot combine any of them. I tried to go back and change the extrude features from new body to join but wont even let me do that. Considering just starting again lol

You can only create a fillet on a single body. not between 2 separate bodies. I don't know why you can't use combine to join those things into a single body. Going to need more info.

If you don't want to share your file as is, can you upload a version with everything but the offending bits stripped out?

oops, i got to it before you took it down. But I didn't save it. Here's a screen cast of one of the gazillion possible ways to fix this. I just turned screen cast on and let it run, so it's a little rough.

Basic steps-

-got rid of the offset plane you put the upper beveled disk on.

-redefined the plane for the sketch so it was the end of the cylinder

-edited the extrude to be a join.

-fixed something else in the time line, don't remember what

-put in the fillet.

In general, your using a lot of construction planes unnecessarily. If there is geometry available to put a sketch on, skip the offset plane. Also, a mid plane isn't necessary if it falls right on the origin, just use one of the already existing planes.

I did take a quick look at a cross section, and I would say you can probably take a top down approach and model this thing with just 2 sketches and no construction planes at all. It would make your model easier to edit, and a lot lighter in general.

Thank you so much for your help :). As for the mid plane, i couldnt figure out how to put a curve in a straight cylinder so i opted to revolve a sketch but couldnt figure out how to sketch from the the edge to revolve around center. How would you do it in two sketches? Just sketch all dimensions from the side and revolve it or something?

Yes. From what I remember of the design, you should be able to draw a sketch on the XZ plane and revolve around the Z axis it to get most of the separate bodies. Then put a sketch on the XY plane for the "tabs" (stops?) or what ever they were. use "project" to project geometry from you revolved bodies to help with placement. When you extrude take advantage of the "start" and "extents" settings. I can make a sample design if that's not clear
