Hi evryone,

I have a newbie question. Is it possible to create shapes like this in Fusion 360?

Can someone point our which tools to use or brief sumamry of approach to take?

Appreciate any help that can be given. Also, if another tool or 3D program is better that is suggested (I'm on a Mac).

Thanks!

This is not really a hard surface but Fusion's approach to sketching and surfacing makes this very labor intensive.

You can in Fusion use rather the T-Spline environment to create the object.

Thank for the reply Claas. Would there be a better tool to model this in and then import into Fusion?

Took a quick stab at it. The lofts are a little finicky, but it's do able.

I'd imagine a program like blender could do this also, though the approach would be different. IDK

If your going to be doing a lot of jewelry (?), both programs would be worth getting to know. They have different strong points.

Here's a pic and the file's attached

There are two major problems with Fusion here.

First Fusion does not allow T-Splines to create self intersecting surface.

I suggested that ability often particularly to make geometry like in this case that intersects and later can be trimmed by the user.

The second problem seems that Fusion is unable to loft between two end profiles along a center rail which is pretty embarrassing.

But even when adjusting the position of the end sketch (not being below the top profile) the rail function fails.

I whipped this one up with Blender's path tools in few seconds.

It allows you to smoothly flow a profile alone a path even when closed (cyclic) and then scale the profile along the path CVs.

The only work around might be to use T-Splines and build each half alone with horizontal tangent extensions along each end

so you can later snip the extensions off and join the two parts.

Blender is my go to sculpting tool as I find T-Splines lacking many modeling abilities and transformation controls I need for efficient work.

T-Splines I mainly only use for importing OBJ data to turn into NURBS in Fusion and that combo I feel is combining the best of both worlds

as both apps Fusion and Blender have ups and downs and T-Spline or Mesh2BREP is the perfect bridge tool.

@SaeedHamza s approach to keep the ends open and then blend via the loft command also works

if the object is symmetrical and can be mirrored.

make sure you use solid loft and not patch loft as this will help later when using the solid combine

so you dont have to use patch trim stuff
