Well, been playing around and got the profile on one half of the shield.

http://a360.co/2x91DmS

But this is where I'm stuck. How would I go about adding a 45 degree bend and have the other half identical to the side I sketched out?

Or is there a better way to do this all together? As right now the if I add the bend, it will be shaped like upside down L rather then the /\ that I was hoping it to be.

First thing, could have sworn I already typed this post but either it got moved/deleted or it never got submitted for some reason, even though I recall editing the post. If it broke some rule please and it got deleted, could you inform me so I know what I did wrong.

So, messing around with trying to make a BBQ heat shield. If it was a simple rectangle with a bend, I am able to easily make that. But this heat shield is tapered. lets use for example one end 3" wide and 3' tall triangle while the other tapers down to 2" wide and 2" tall triangle. How would I go about making this? Having difficulty trying to figure out how to bend a trapezoid piece of steel. If you could point me in the right direction, that would be great. All the tutorials I've watched so far are working with a base that rectangle.

Also, when I created a the bent rectangle and unfolded it, it didn't unfold flat on the XY plane, but unfolded at a 45 degree angle. Is there a way to force it to unfold flat onto the XY plane?

Sorry for the delay, just got home from work. So here is a picture of something I aiming towards.

Not sure if you can make it out in the image or not. Just some image I pulled up on google. But it matches the profile of the existing shields.

Just to throw out measurements to get a idea of how it's tapered.

Lets say it's 16" in overall length

One end is 3 5/8" wide and 2" tall

Other end is 3 1/4" wide and 1 1/4" tall

The cutouts I believe I know how to do that, making them on a sketch on a unfolded piece of sheet metal and such. But overall shape is what is causing me difficulties, as its not a rectangle when unfolded.

Thanks.

Just thinking here, would it be better to model it as a rectangle first, and then sketch out the shape I want afterwards out of the rectangles?

Have a look at the attached file and see how close it is to what you need, you just need to move the timeline back to see the steps I used to get the shape.
