Edit Drawing Call Out Balloons

I want to place call out balloons to identify items based on a custom table.

Every balloon I place is 1. I go to "renumber" the balloons and as I click around in sequence they all change to the next number.

What gives?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with balloons and tables. Unfortunately, balloons only work with parts lists and there's no way to make them work with custom tables. As for the balloon renumbering behaviour, the behaviour you are seeing is correct. Saying that, I'm curious as to why all of your balloons show item 4. Is each of the balloons associated to a different component within the drawing view, or to the body?

And regarding your custom table, is the reason you're creating a custom table because of limitations with the current parts list? If so, would you mind sharing a little about the contents of your custom table? We've just started work on allowing parts lists to be customised, so any feedback would be great appreciated.

Hi Andrew,
The balloons are all showing "4" because that's the way I left it before I started the screen cast. If you watch it you'll see they will cycle back around to "1", "2" etc. they change to the number of the balloon based on the order in which they were placed. I find it hard to believe that this is the correct behavior of the balloon renumber tool.
I am using a custom table because I am only trying to show a few top level assemblies in a massive assembly containing both bodies and components. It contains an Item column, a Part# column and a Description column, all of which are populated with arbitrary info not tied to the model. The auto generated table is too large and unnecessary in this drawing.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the feedback. We've just started work on the ability to customise the columns displayed in parts lists, so this will allow you to at least display the columns you need. As for being able to show\hide items (rows) within the parts list, once column customisation is done we'll be starting work on the creation of all-level parts lists (in addition to the first-level parts lists we create now) and the ability to show\hide individual items is something we are considering. How often do you need this level of control?

And regarding your balloon numbering issue, the reason I said balloon renumbering is working correctly is because it appears all 4 balloons are attached to the same component and are therefore updating to display the same item number during the renumbering process. This only happens when balloons are attached to the same component or component hierarchy within the first level parts list. If balloons are attached to different components at the first level of the parts list, each balloon is independent. From the screen cast I can't say if this is the case or not.

The only suggestion I have is, make sure each component or assembly you're trying balloon is a component or assembly directly below IMC_080317, if they are any deeper you are hitting our first-level parts list limitation. A good way to check this would be to create a parts list outside your drawing border, and if the components and assemblies you are trying to balloon are included, they will have independent balloons. If they are not included, you are hitting our current limitation and the only workaround is to restructure your design so they are components and assemblies of IMC_080317.

I'm having a similar problem, but the renumber doesn't seem to know the difference between a component inside of another. I have a model with thirteen other models imported into it for an entire assembly for a machine I'm working on, and I want a balloon to point at two separate components, but both fall under the same component folder hierarchy. Is a way I can pick which component to attach the balloon to so it doesn't choose the entire folder and pick the smaller ones. These are not only individual bodies, they are separate components, but they fall under the same folder. Any ideas here?

Simply infuriating! I've had to get the wife and kids of this program because of its annoying nature, don't even get notifications on the fusion app. Basic.

Pity, that this don't work.

I have a large assembly with about 150 components in it.

I grouped the components in different component groups like "screws" / "side plates" / "covers"....

Under this component groups I sometimes have sub-groups. And finally the components itself.

It would be nice to be more flexible with the balloons.

E.g. If I point on a specific screw, the table tells me only the first group name ("screws" ).

But I'd like to have the exact screw name, which is in the lowest groups order.

So it would be nice, if we can choose, which name of the hierarchy Fusion 360 takes for the table for each of the balloons.

And it would be nice to tell Fusion, to only show rows in the table, for which we have balloons associated.

This would be very helpful!

Sorry, but I don't know, where to change options for the parts list table.

As you can see on the screenshot (attached), only a small part of the whole assembly is activated.

But under this assembly (FAN Backplate) there are several sub-components.

One is "16-Slot RP". But this is also only a sub-group.

But the "FAN 80x80mm..." are direct components.

What I'm looking for is the following:

Place a balloon on an edge of a component. Then Fusion asks me, which name I want to take.

E.g. "OldScrew" or "16-Slot RP" or "FAN Backplate"

Witch other words, witch (sub)-level should Fusion take as name for this balloon.

This would be very nice and then build the table with only these balloons.

If I set it to "All Level", then the table is too big. I only need some parts of it!

Unfortunately, this is currently a limitation.

I think an editing option should be created for this.

Take a look at the Roadmap.

I've got the same problem with my assembly. Its nearly 5 years since @andrew.de.leon mentioned this is a limitation. Its infuriating, I've got to rearrange the model to ensure the drawing is functional....

Yes, it's frustrating to do a lot of manual work (either change model hierarchy or manually place texts) in today's time, when the solution would be so simple.

We have been able to do a lot of improvements to the Drawing Environment in the last couple of years, but we still have a lot planned that is being worked on.
