Garden Hose Threads

I would like to model both male and female garden hose threads in Fusion 360. Does anyone know what specs to use in the Thread dialogue box?

Hi etfrench,

Thank you so much for your reply. I have seen that post previously and understand the specs; however, cannot find settings in Fusion 360 > Create > Thread (see image attached) that will reproduce these specs, i.e., what is the Tread Type, Size, Designation, Class that will give me the result required.

I am new to Fusion so perhaps I am niave in thinking that this is how I would create a garden hose thread.

Any further thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I'm putting this here for anyone else looking. I chased down the specs. The NFPA 1963 spec (Standard for Fire Hose Connections, 2014 Edition) says:

A.1.1.

Some fire-fighting organizations use small hose less than 3⁄4 in. (19 mm) nominal diameter fitted with garden hose couplings. Such couplings should have 0.75-11.5 NH (garden hose thread) threads conforming to ANSI/ASME B1.20.7, Standard on Hose Coupling Screw Threads.

I found the ANSI/ASME B1.20.7 spec document from 1993 here and it gave me dimensions that let me produce the 3/4"-11.5 threads using the following National Hose Threads.xml file to put in my AppData\Local\Autodesk\webdeploy\production\<XXX>\Fusion\Server\Fusion\Configuration\ThreadData directory:

I've used the internal threads from this spec and had leak-free mating with standard US home-improvement store hoses using ASA printed with high infill.

Thanks for chasing down the spec.

I have since tried using COIL to get a 3/4" thread, and through some trial and error, was able to get it to work nicely (see below); albeit the COIL approach produces sharp leading edges, which I don't know how to soften.

I suspect your solution will work much better and will try it.

Old thread, I know. I wish a garden hose wasn't so difficult to make for Fusion. Every time Fusion updates, the folder to place the template changes.

Just copied the XML to a file, saved it and tried it out. Using the other links in this thread I was able to find the current thread data directory. This worked great! I have a test piece I have been trying to get hose threads on, and I just modified the last thread test I had and used this custom thread. Worked like a charm...

Hello, I am new to Autodesk how do I copy the .xml script to a file, so can then use it in Fusion 360?

Copy the attached xml file to the Fusion 360 threads folder. Unfortunately this is easier said than done as most times that F360 is updated this folder moves! An added problem is that when F360 updates in the future it's not kind enough to move your custom thread files for you. To make life easier I'd highly recommend using the 'ThreadKeeper' add-in, as this will manage all of that for you.

The provided code was very helpful for my project. I needed to add the 1\2" for my particular project so here is an updated xml for those who would like 3/4" as well as 1/2".
