Project along a path

Hi,

because I need more or less the same shape of the deck also one level lower, I want to project it because I don't want to redo the splines. Unfortunately it's not a straight projecten. What I did to solve my task is:

I've prolonged the prow-line to get a longer path.
I've created a temporary part of the hull by "sweeping" the deck profile along the path
I projected the profile by using "project -> intersect"
I've removed the temporary patch because it's not used anymore.

Because this does not feel very clean, I'm wondering if ther is a better way to do the trick.

I don't quit get what you're after. Could you attach a picture of what you're trying to achieve?

@SaeedHamza: Thanks for your reply. hopefully I can describe my problem a bit better now. I want to project the spline (red) from one plane (orange / Sketch Top View) to another plane (green / Sketch179) along a path (blue).

Edit: Sorry for the shaky linkes lines. Sitting at my notebook with no Wacom around. I have put a link to my sample project. It looks empty but it isn't.

You did this exactly the way I would have.

You can do this as a project along vector (under project to surface on the sketch menu) but it throws a warning unless you have a real surface to attach to. Just projecting to your work plane is functional, but it does put the yellow warning light on the sketch.

I'm sorry, but I guess I still don't get it ...

If you want to project this, just project it on the bottom plane, which you created at an angle already for the " not straight projection " thing

And the results are the same as the results your attached file has

If I'm misunderstanding then please show me where the difference is between your screencast and just projecting

Edit : I'm sorry, now I see the difference. Just as @I_Forge_KC said, use project to surface to get it, although it will cause a yellow sketch feature in the timeline because of selecting a plane instead of a face I guess, but it will do

I think there could be a bug at play here with project to surface, B/C I get the same error even when Projecting to a surface. Deleting the "projected" constraint reference does clear the error, but still.

@Anonymous, another project bug?

Your sweep does not give the correct surface to conform with the canvass, because it is a sweep, and not a Loft.

I have edited an old version file, that file does not have a chine rail, and needs one

Your (top) canvass had to be edited to match the side view,

I completed the loft by making a lower chine rail (2 tangent arcs (but Intersection curves will be better) )

editing the top rail, you had two splines, that gave a not tangent error, (it is now one spline curve)

Looks like what you wanted, more editing may smooth out the zebra better - top and bottom curves above the chine, are a mismatch, (but for demonstration)

You may check and edit the processes to get your to the goal.

Thx for your time and your solution. I skipped "Project to surface" without trying because I thought it also involves a temporary surface. In that case it would have had the same disadvantage as my solution.Okay - with less steps.

Now I've tried it and found out, that I can use a plane as surface. Much cleaner. Okay I have to break the projection. But if this is a bug (???), it will be fixed at some pint (keep my fingers crossed)

Sry - I missed your post while writing one. Thanks for your time and efforts. Im a beginner and I'm not sure that I understand everything you did.

An older version of another thread?
Of course a sweep is not a loft. But my thought was, that I can use it to project the profile from the top view to the plan beneath it. The upper part of the hull is vertical as you can the in the topological map. Why couldn't I use the sweep in your opinion?

I didn't want to draw to lower profile by hand because (for me) it's pretty hard to get matching lines and that problem should be solved by a projection.

I'm not sure if your interpretation of transition from the vertical part of the hull to bottom side of the hull is right. What you are interpreting as a curve to the downside is in my opinion the green line in my topological map. I my opinion it looks curved because of the reflections from the sea.

Thanks for showing me a different way. I somehow fixed it on my own by changing / redrawing the sketches. By I never was happy with the front part (even if I got it better) because the top and the middle line didn't matched perfectly. That's why I was looking for a way to project it.
