unable to select some items.

I've looked at all the messages with a similar subject and can't find a solution. I'm really getting frustrated. This is my 3rd try at this. I had a component designed and wasn't happy with it so I started a new project and built it over. All good. Then I wanted to bring in the original model and project it's face onto the new model. After bringing it in, when I moved it (B) to align with the new component (A) It left behind an extraneous body (C) that I want to delete (or at least hide), but I cant select it. Is there a "make all select-able" command? How can I tell which objects are marked Unselectable? If this is the problem. I figured out how to do the projection but I cannot then extrude the text. Help!

The file isn't accessible. It would be better to attach the file to this thread. File|Export and choose Archive (*.f3d) and attach the output file.

@glen.cafferty, I think I can read between the lines here, and make a guess. When you say "Then I wanted to bring in the original model and project it's face onto the new model", I suspect you used "Insert" from the data panel to bring the original model into the new version. Then, when you say "I want to delete (or at least hide), but I cant select it", referring to the "left behind" body (or is it a component?), you are referring to the fact that you cannot change the visibility of a body in an inserted component. If so, then, yes, that is a limitation of inserted components. You will have to open the original design, and make that body invisible or delete it there. This is because you can insert that design in multiple models, so Fusion blocks making edits to it in the referencing design.

A couple of further questions, though, regarding this: "when I moved it (B) to align with the new component (A) It left behind an extraneous body (C)". First, it is good to clarify Body vs Component here. If you moved B, all the bodies should move with it. Do you have sub-components defined in (B)? Is (C) a body or a sub-component? If so, then perhaps a better solution would be to add a joint relationship with (C) and the rest of (B) to control this movement. The "body vs component" distinction is an important one to understand. If (C) was a component, then you could change its visibility in (A) without opening (B).

I was unable to answer your questions as I wasn't clear on distinction between body and component. I think I have it now.

I didn't know C existed until the import. I went back to my original file and hid or deleted those items I didn't want to reference. Then opened (my new project. Everything appeared OK, so I continued with the project and extrude for the lettering on the front. I kept having problems with selecting my main Body/Component? I grow increasingly frustrated with the timeline method so converted to direct Modeling thinking that would break link references. Now I can't select my main component?! I created the component with Direct Modeling before I tried to import the face design in Parametric mode. What I want to do is create a stand alone component with no references to other files. How can I do this? If this is not possible how do I determine what is being referenced. Or which objects are making reference to other files, so I can tell where I have to go to make modifications.?

I tried to attach the latest file but after I exported to an .Fd3 file, I can't find the archive copy. I'm guessing it's not on my PC. Where do I find it to attach?

It looks like you have accomplished all of your goals. There doesn't appear to be any extraneous bodies and there are no external links (You'll see a chain link next to a linked component in the Browser). The main body is easily selectable from the left, right, top, and front when Sketch3 is visible and also from the back when the sketch is not visible.

If you're seeing something different, please make a screencast to show the issue.

p.s. The archive file folder is shown at the bottom of the Export dialog.

Sorry, it looks like I was wrong about being able to select the body. The rest of the post is accurate.

@jeff_strater: There is a red circle with a hash mark on the icon of the component. There doesn't seem to be any easily discovered documentation about what it means or how to remove it.

Here's a remake of your model. I had to export it as an medium resolution STL, then import it into a new file. After converting the mesh to a Brep, I changed to Timeline mode. I saved your Sketch13 as a dxf, then imported that into a new component in the new file. Since none of the geometry in Sketch13 is parallel, I recreated it in a new sketch called FrontFace. You can add dimensions to reposition the geometry in this sketch if the holes are not the correct size or in the correct position. If you want to block a hole when printing, just extrude the hole using the FrontFace sketch. Save the hole body and the main body as one stl for printing.

Yes, I would echo what @etfrench said. It seems like your design is generally OK.

I did notice that you have the "Control Panel" component marked as "unselectable":

also, I noticed that you have two levels of component hierarchy:

was that intentional?
