Complex, open Shape Line Extrusion?

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way to extrude a shape that I imported as an SVG, it has quite complicated lines and only minimal parts form a closed shape - So I am having a bit of a nightmare.

I would like to make the shape visible as if drawn onto my piece, I was trying to do this by extruding the internal image lines by -0.1 mm to give it some depth. Is there an easier way to complete this? Due to the number of faces being around 9000/10,000 it takes a long time to attempt each change and it's driving me crazy being unable to select the lines (The lines are broken everywhere).

Can you share the .svg? Is that what beavers look like?

Yeah sure, SVG is attached. It's a logo so probably not a great representation of what a beaver should look like 😅.

actually, for an SVG, this is not so bad. I've seen lots worse. SVG programs are not designed to create precise geometry, so often we see really bad, disconnected geometry.

Most of this drawing seems fine. All of the profiles in the body seem OK:

and even extrude in a relatively reasonable time, IMO:

the problem area seems to be limited to the tail:

which "leaks" out into areas it should not. Using divide and conquer, further, it seems that the problem is the middle section of the tail:

further narrowing down seems to be confined to this area:

I found that if I deleted these two curves:

and, replaced them with a fit point spline (I was not very careful about it, TBH - feel free to do better), everything worked:

this is the result (repaired model attached, FYI):

but, this is the basic "SVG repair" process I go through. Hope it helps

Hi,

I'm looking for the full shield for the logo to attach to various different pieces.

The thing I want to achieve is:

5mm thick shield

Shield border raised by 1mm all around.

Beaver raised slightly above rectangular surrounding it.

Alternating waves raised slightly between colours. I'll attach a picture of what I want it to look like in full colour.

EDIT: Ive added an offset the the shield perimeter to aeanble the waves to be treated as separate profiles.

NP. I've added the shield via new import so the scale might be a bit off

That is much appreciated, you've saved me a good chunk of work messing with it, I haven't done much modelling since I got my 3D printer, I've mostly printed pre-made things.
