Hello,

Over the years I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to experience many drawing/drafting platforms. The recent of these platforms has been SOLIDWORKS, which i've used professionally in the last 7 months. And in those 7 months i quickly realize SW has the absolute best drawing module there is...I returned to Fusion 360 this past weekend after a long vacation from it (ps - yes im updated). Modeled a design and began to draw. Quickly did I find how cumbersome and lousy the module is. With that said, i've decided to create this post providing tips to those who are designing this module. Some of my rants are rants and others are quarks. Quarks being personal preferences. A disclaimer though, I haven't thoroughly researched if some of my complaints are possible (though i shouldn't have to) so feel free to enlighten me if i'm mistaken on any of these counts.

__________________________________________________________

1.) No drawing geometry in the drawing space?

You've got to be kidding me... I can't draw a simple line in my drawing? I won't explain any more...

2.) Improve Performance

I'll start with: my hardware isn't an issue... Draw in SW once and you will find everything flows smoothly. I'm speaking graphically. You want to drag a view to the other side of the screen? Sure, nice and smooth. This is how Fusion needs to be. Instead, it is blocky/jumpy and just isn't what it should be. Truly, the biggest deal-breaker for any serious considerer of F360.

3.) Free-form dimension positioning

This goes hand in hand with the above complaint - it should be smooth! I can move a dimension in SW to virtually any XY point in space without a problem. In F360, i really can't - it wants to cling onto things or just not move. I've noticed this mostly moving in the left/right direction, rather than vertically. At least give us the option to turn off object snap.

4.) Custom Letter Designation For Views

Changing a section view or detail view letter not possible? A, B, and C are boring letters, folks. The user should be able to click on the detail view and have the UI ask for a letter.

5.) Detail View Style

It would be nice to be able to change the style of the detail marker - such as full circle, square, arrow-style like F360 has, etc.

6.) Allow Parametric Attributes

A title block's attribute fields should be able to be linked to the model's parameters. For instance, the date should auto fill in the date block. This is a big dealbreaker for professional users.

7.) Section View Resizing

The section view line--the actual line. It should be adjustable after it is placed. I don't think it is, but i could be wrong. Sometimes it adds an aesthetic to the drawing by lengthening or shortening this line... Yes, i said aesthetic - CAD is art!

8.) Annoying Dimension

Unsure what to call this, but you will find my problem illustrated in the image below... what i was attempting to achieve here was linearly dimensioning a point on an angle (right side) parallel to the center line of a slot, and regardless of what dimension type i used, it had to resort to NOT dimensioning the item... This is absurd.

___________________________________________________

Now, its not all terrible. Fusion 360 Drawing does have some features that set it apart from the others.

1.) Tables

Tables are cool. Not sure if this is unique to Fusion but a great idea.

2.) Titleblock Creation with ACAD

I like that i was able to seamlessly create a custom title block in Autocad with defined attributes. And fusion makes importing the custom titleblock simple. I like it.

3.) Fast Execution

F360 takes the cake for fast execution. What I mean is, I can go from the model view to creating a new drawing file almost instantaneously. No wait time between. This is a big advantage on productivity.

CONCLUSION:

I would think that Autodesk wants Fusion 360 to head in a professional direction, I mean, it does have a price nowadays for commercial use (and a good one). With that said, I can't see anyone taking this software seriously assuming the above complaints are unresolvable. I've made my cases and I hope the Drawing module designers on F360 consider what I've said. If the drawing could improve, I would not hesitate to call Fusion 360 the best CAD software on the market.

Thank you

Yes, Amen. I´ll really hope also that these things are going to get more professional way. And hopefylly those planned updates are really coming...
