Can't select plane to extrude

I'm trying to extrude the top facing plane around the edge of this model. I can select it normally, but if I try to extrude it, it doesn't let me select the plane.

I've attached the f3d file to play with.

I'm wondering if there's just some weird geometry going on, but I have no idea what that might be or how to fix it.

Haven't checked the model, because you can see the problem in the pics,

the blue section is not flat, has a wave shape at each end, and continues in each segment as a grooved corner.

Will depend on your design intent, as to how to fix it.

Ah! Good catch. Is there way to do some sort of "flatten" command? The exact accuracy of this part of the model isn't terribly important. Ultimately just need to do a rough extrude of about 12mm around the whole edge.

I would offset plane, 12mm above, new sketch,

Project the top edges, then extrude to the current body with join.

Might help...
