Dear community,

i try to emboss a surface with a logo. I followed by the guides i found on youtube. But it seems that Fusion have problems with my imported SVG. The extrude command just partly show the embossed elements and show a message: "Error: Tool body creation failed
Its bs3_surface has self-intersections". Some elements work some not. The sketch lines are connected properly from the visual view. I can't add SVG as file directly but you can access the file here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m6j0nzn8rmy461j/coloryzer.svg, it's easy to reproduce. It would be great to hear solutions for this issue on my site.

Thank you a lot and have a great evening,

Daniel

Normally I would say there's something wrong with your svg file. because it's always the svg file. but in this case it looks like it's something different. it extrudes just fine, so it should emboss for you. see screen cast. Can you attach your file?

Thank you a lot for taking your time to dig into my problem. I share the same opinion with you about the svg. To reproduce the issue please create an offset plane to the sketch. Then edit your extrusion and set from object and select the face who looks away from the sketch. Chose any extrusion height. The extrusion should result in an error and just appear partly. Thank you a lot.

Hello Guenther,

i've did this before without success. The issue is related to the edge which is created by revolve function. If i create a frustum for example there is no edge

later on the body and the extrusion works as expected. I have that slightly feeling of a bug in this constellation.

Thank you,

Daniel

Thank you for your efforts. Unfortunately, the import lost its precision, the curves are reduced to a few lines which makes the result unusable. 😞

Just now getting back to this. Your suspicion that there is a bug at play is correct. There is at least one bug report related to extruding FROM an object that is a non-planer surface. Maybe @jeff_strater could elaborate on that. The work around is to set your extrusion up so you are extruding TO the object. I haven't had a chance to set up an example, but in this case at least, the issue is not your SVG, but rather trying to extrude FROM that surface.

For the record, I don't advocate using SVG curves like this for any 3d work. The high number of curve segments, and the unpredicatablity of the curve quality makes it just not worth fooling with (for me personaly).

However, @JamieGilchrist, as i said above, what @daniel.rindtis experiancing is a direct result of a KNOWN BUG related to extrude FROM. The SVG works fine as-is.

Below is a screen cast demonstraiting this on a revolve surface simular to the OP's.

The second half of the video shows a work around using extrude TO, which seems to work better.

You'l notice the rather long processing time for the operation. one of the reasons I don't like to use SVG's.

Also attched the result from the screen cast
