I tried posting this yesterday, but mentioned CAM in the title, so maybe not many looked at it.

I want to be able to locate the part on different fixtures , so need to add some type of tab to the existing drawing and that tab needs to be on the inside of the part, as I am using ID expansion clamps to hold the work.

I can't seem to draw the tab and make it part of the drawing, so when I put a toolpath to it , it does what I expect it to do.

Ideally this tab in the drawing would be on the face below where it is now, but in sketch I can't seem to make it on that face. Won't highlight it. I tried making a new component for the part instead , but same result.

Help, please!

@Anonymous,

Thank you for sharing the model. Can you explain a bit more what you are trying to do with this model (when you say "drawing", I assume that you mean "model", as opposed to a 2D technical drawing)? If you cannot create a sketch on a face, the usual reason is that this face is not planar. Can you tell me what face you are trying to create a sketch on? Or, record a screencast of what you are seeing, so I can get a better idea of your workflow?

thanks,

Thanks for the reply

The part in the file is what I am trying to make and so far I have been fairly successful in the CAM part of Fusion with simple toolpaths.

I am very new to it all, so I have some working holding and positioning problems and when I try to turn the part I can not line it up perfectly, and there is another op on its side

SO, I decided to add a tab inside the the part, which is that little half moon bit you see, that is 4mm long 2mm deep.

It can be any size or shape, just as long as it lines up the workholding and easy to machine off when I am finished.

The shakey black arrow points to the tab I made, the red arrow points to the face I wanted it to be on. As I said, I do not mind the size and shape, just want it to locate onto a ID clamp and after that , bring it back to this position and take that tab off. For that reason it would be best where the red arrow points, but I cant use this one I drew anyway and cant seem to put it on the face where the red arrow shows

so, are you looking for the "combine" function?

Thanks for the explanation. That is very helpful. Here is how I would model these tabs:

Hope this helps you move forward.
