Rotated dimension

I am having some trouble putting dimensions on an arrow.

I am supposed to create a dimension from the purple point to the blue point (Extension of the line)

But the only thing I can snap to is the endpoint of the arrow (Red point)

Is there a way to force the rotation of a dimension to follow a line and enable projection of an endpoint to the extended line?

In your drawing, there is no line that can be projected to that point. If it is perpendicular to the dashed line at the upper red point, then your dimension is accurate. If it isn't perpendicular at that point, then it's just a randomly placed point which you will need to add in order to dimension it.

Hi Erik,

If there's not a specific reason you need the arrow dimensioned at that angle, my suggestion would be to use Rotate in the drawing to rotate the view horizontal/vertical, then the standard dimension tool will give you the correct distance. Currently you're just getting an aligned dimension between those two points.

Rotate > Select the view > Select the Transform (rotation point) > Use the Reference option in the dialog and select two endpoints of the same straight segment, then drag the cursor so it aligns horizontally/vertically.

If you do need to keep the arrow at that angle in the drawing, the easiest option is to create some sketch geometry in the design (could be a short line segment at the tip, perpendicular to the straight section at the bottom) and then turn on the sketch in the drawing and dimension to that (it will be fully associated to the view).

The arrow has to be rotated on the drawing, so I need to use the workaround of creating sketchlines to use for dimensioning.

I just had some trouble showing the sketches in the Drawing workspace. (Found out I had to turn on two lightbulbs - 'Sketches' and 'Sketchname')

Thanks for the hint, but do you know whether rotated dimension are going to be implemented so it would be possible to do this without having to create additional sketch lines?

I just wondered if this was still a thing? I'm coming up against the same issue time and time again on timber or steel frame works.
