NPT pipe threads (new hole wizard)

Looking through the options on a the new hole creation tool I see all types of pipe threads except NPT. There are Bsp pipe threads but not Npt? am I missing something?

Hi @htulrich,

You're right, NPT threads are not there yet, but they are on the way! Adding tapered threads requires a bit more work beyond the parallel thread types, so we weren't able to ship it with the initial release of the new Hole tool (the BSP pipe threads there today are only the parallel type - we should be adding tapered BSP alongside NPT). Adding these is top of our development list, and already under active development, so should be available relatively soon - likely one of the summer updates.

Almost 2019 and still no NPT threads. This is a joke. Autodesk needs to add these. It's embarrasing Fusion didn't have these threads when the software came out years ago.

Shameless bump for tapered threads...needed! Not just NPT but any threads should be able to specify a pull out location and angle. I don't use NPT but straight to tapered exit is common on my components.

Hi Jake,

Any date yet? This seems pretty confusing to me, would it help if in have
the specs?? BSPT (TAPERED) They Are VERY similar to NPT style fittings

BSPP (PARALLEL) are not TAPERED so even simpler.

I just got today's update. I see the BSP Taper internal on the list. Not what you wanted?

Experimenting with the npt to see how it works out versus the way I have been creating them manually.

I am wondering what I can do to adjust the fit.

I find fittings vary a little bit from different mfgs and different base metals. Some fit tight, others loose for lack of a better explanation.

Installed update. First thing I notice in the threads is that NPT is in the hole option which eliminates the ability to make a male thread unless I'm missing something. And the modeled check box is missing.

See that green bar across the top of your Fusion window? The one that says you've got the new update and has a link you can click to see the details?

Those details explain that tapered threads are cosmetic only for now, and they're working on getting the modeled version to work.

Sorry; yes, today’s update only enabled tapered threads in the Hole command, and only supports cosmetic threads. I should have been clear on that in the previous post - that’s my bad, apologies for that.

Totally appreciate that this doesn’t constitute tapered threads being ‘done’. From the development team’s standpoint, it was more practical to implement this in stages. The team first worked on the most frequent request around tapered threads (tapered threaded holes), and since it’s been a long time request, we wanted to make that first iteration available once it was ready. Fuller support will come in future updates; can’t give a definitive timeframe yet on those I’m afraid (didn’t do a great job of that last time…), but hope that provides a bit of clarity.

@Fueler - Regarding the various thread 'fits' you describe; are you looking for additional standard thread classes? Or something more like a manual override for thread sizes based on practical needs?

I suppose that is what I am asking. One or the other or both.

I probably worded that incorrectly.

What I find is that one mfg fitting goes in to a correct depth and the next mfg fitting goes in too far or not far enough.

I assume for whatever reason they are working off of different standards on the male threads.

There is also the case where an AL fitting has been anodized and they did not allow for the surface growth when originally machining the thread.

Anyway, I find myself fussing around with the internal thread to match the fitting being used.

I did not see how to do that with our new npt thread feature.
