topic Duplicate component without any links to original part in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

Hi All,

I have a component in a complicated model, and we need to produce the component in three versions, with small modifications to thickness of one part in each.

The problem is, If i duplicate the part, when I modify the duplicated version, it also updates the original - which we do not want. We want to keep the original component and the two duplicates totally separate and not linked at all.

The two ways of duplication I have tried are:

Copy and paste

Move/copy, and click the create copy box. The system will not allow you to OK this unless you actually move it (i need to keep the duplicate in the same place) so I have to move it 3mm to the left, then move the duplicate 3mm back to where it started afterwards.

With both methods, there are no chain icons in the browser. There is no 'break link' option when I right click on the components.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Pete.

Copy/Paste new creates three totally independent copies with three totally independent sets of user parameters.

in 2016 I co hosted a class at Autodesk University in which I used the concepts of "configurations - light" that might address what you want to do. Hopefully the link allows you to view the Google docs document with the class handout.

I also created a youtube video a while ago to explain the effects of copying and pasting bodies and components on Fusion 360, which forms the basis of "configurations - light".
