Don't deal with poor sources, Use it as a canvas, create a sketch on top of it, spend some minutes to sketch it and delete the canvas.

Are these untrimmed curves part of your Design Intent?

Can you use Lines and Arcs rather than Splines?

I prefer to use the most primitive geometry possible to define my curves.

Even your "circles" are not circles. And you have "lines" that are not lines?

Given that the source is poor quality (see overlapping untrimmed curves) I would start a new sketch and use the imported geometry only as reference in creating proper geometry.

+1 for the suggestions offered :

I'm embarrassed to admit the number of times that I've fallen into the trap of trying to work with poor source files. In hindsight, almost every case would have been (significantly) faster to simply model cleanly from scratch. In cases, I felt that I simply wasn't allowed to change source geometry (or maybe I didn't feel like taking on the liability associated with doing so). Again, in hindsight, the argument that cleaning up a dirty/poor sketch was somehow better than generating new geometry from scratch is really..... just a weak argument. The new sketch will be cleaner, more robust, faster (in both generating, and in subsequent use).

Your approach is the brute-force (and very tedious) method of looking at the sketch section by section, and repairing overlaps, misaligned endpoints, and finding disconnected stray bits. 'Back in the old days' this was just what we did. It was horrible 🙂

Best bets :

1) ask for a clean file. Your source may not be able to provide one.... but let them do the work if possible.

2) retrace as suggested, and delete the garbage source sketch as soon as possible.
