Any way to create timeline subgroups (groups within groups)?

Hi,

I have a long timeline, and to clean it up I'm creating groups in my timeline for each component. Some of those components themselves have pretty long timelines (say a lot of cut and pasted bolts). I'd like to be able to make a timeline group inside another timeline group to further clean things up, but the group right-click menu is not available inside a timeline group. Is there a way to do this, or some reason why it's restricted?

Darn. Thanks for the reply. I'll post it as a feature request, unless there's some reason it doesn't make sense.

I believe it has been posted in the idea station already. The grouping function can certainly use a little TLC.

Please Autodesk, this is something I could really use. When I import a component with subgroups these are all gone and it makes things difficult to work with in the timeline, it would really be great to have subgroups and keep original grouping from the model visible, thanks

@hansvaneven can you elaborate on what you mean with that, perhaps by showing an example with a screencast or screenshots?

Hello, thanks for coming back to me.

The project in question is for a client so I can't share it but it's quite easy to explain.

For example in this project, a template I use as base for other projets, I have a timeline using groups of features I can suppress or unsuppress, very handy to work with.
Now if I want to use this component in another project I simply import that into the new fusion file, as it's a template I unlink it, and then I can select the component in the new project and work further on details. All works perfectly but when you select the component it's a complete group in the timeline, but the original groups and names I gave to them are gone as F360 doesn't support subgroups and they are displayed as simply suppressed/unsuppressed items without being in a group as you can see here.

So what I'd like to see it the ability to have subgroups in F360 with the name I gave to them like here

I think instead of timeline groups, you can achieve the same with Configurations.

I checked configurations but it doesn't seems to be active in my paid subscription, seems I need to make my projects for teams but I'm the only one working on it so don't understand this.

Ok I got it I had to create a Team and then transfer all my single user projects to the Team, trying to figure out configurations now

Hello, I'm using Configurations now, works nice except when I import a model with configurations it asks me to select the desired configuration on import and once done you don't have access anymore to the other configurations. Is there a way to change configurations after you import a model into your scene ? thanks

Select the linked component in the browser, right-click, and select Switch Configuration.

OMG, seems like lying on your side to take a photo in landscape mode, it works but is it really a good option? (I just put the camera on its side).

What would be great is a timeline that looks like this, showing two nested groups

The C++ equivalent is nested functions, from the web
