topic Re: Can't Create Loft Tangency to Body in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

I was able to recreate the error when rechecking the file today,

Loft worked for me, with selecting the fuse edge, and the canopy sketch lines, (my normal workflow)

the error comes with the selection of the canopy body edge as the profile, (workflow from tutorial)

As the Patch worked as expected, and the Loft goes troppo, it's one for @jeff_strater or his crew.

Thanks for the update.

I am in my first month of trying to learn Fusion 360, and I'm trying to learn to loft an airplane fuselage. I found a tutorial for creating a model P51 in Solidworks, and I'm trying to duplicate the model in Fusion. I know nothing about Solidworks, but I've managed to get through lofting the basic fuselage, and much of the functionality between Solidworks and Fusion seems to be similar. But I'm stuck on the canopy. The Solidworks tutorial I'm referring to is here. The canopy loft is on page 13 of the PDF. The image below shows the two profiles I'm trying to loft between, similar to the tutorial. The problem is that Fusion throws an error with the tangency constraint on Profile 1. I've tried everything, and I'm stuck. Is there a way to do this similar to the method in the Solidworks tutoriual? If not, can someone suggest a workaround?

Create > Patch,

disable chaining, then selected the fuse edges, then canopy edges, clockwise.

then in the conditions box, selected the last 3 edges and changed to Tangent from connected.

For a more accurate model, you may need to add rails between the profiles.

No error with Loft, using the direction condition for the centre line profile. Fuse hidden for clarity.

File attached, use edit feature to check my settings.

Might help....

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply and the model. After playing around with your model just a little, I was able to duplicate the Solidworks canopy perfectly!

I still don't quite understand why the loft feature wouldn't work here though. It just fails. That's been my main frustration in learning Fusion 360. Sometimes operations just fail, and the error explanations Fusion generates are rarely helpful in resolving the problem.

I consider this one solved, with many thanks, but if you or anyone else could explain why the loft feature doesn't work in this case, I would love to better understand it.
