Have you tried using contact sets for the x-y slot? I used a similar approach on a barrel cam. It wasn't the most elegant solution but for a visualisation it was sufficient
Contact sets work, on really simple things. My experience, this isn't
one of them. My assembly is way beyond what contact sets can handle

In that scenario, based on my experience, contact sets will fail and start interfering work regular joints.

I've seen to many user designs struggle simply because they enabled a contact set.

In other words, given that contact set are the only thing that could theoretically help in this case this is unlikely going to work in Fusion 360.

We need 5 more joint types to address common problems and have asked for these for years (at least 3).

This is, unfortunately, a limitation that Fusion has at the moment: It is lacking any sort of "cam follower" joint/constraint. There is likely no way to do this in Fusion today, as indicated here. It's on the list, but not in progress. Sorry not to have better news...

Well ... we need 5 more joint types to make the Fusion 360 joint system really feature complete. They are all in the idea station. We've not seen any significant improvements or additions to the joint system in the last 2 years and it is so easy to find a joint that can only be completed with a workaround, or as in this case not at all.

I find this particularly disheartening, because the joint system in Fusion 360 is one of those areas where it really shines. It is beautiful in concept and more than any other areas in Fusion 360 it would so deserve to be feature complete.

To the moderator:

I totally agree with Trippy Lighting. The sole goal of any CAD program today is to increase productivity. To have users pend hours or days trying to find a work around is not helping your cause. Please, do something to complete the joint tool kit. The other awesome features in Fusion 360 mean nothing if you cannot build a model to use them. How many users have given up and had to go back to Solidworks just to stay in business because of the lack of functionality in the joint tool set?

Really? You can't stay in business unless you can make a functional cam follower type joint in your computer model? This limitation prevents you from producing stuff selling it or whatever you do?

Perhaps your business is actually producing accurately jointed assembly models for others?

didnt prevent me from staying in business

but it did prevent me from getting the business off the ground with fusion360.

the first real project i tried, that would have been for a substantial payout (6 figures)

wasnt possible to make a working model for the customer to see.

i ended up paying someone to create it in solidworks

i still use fusion, because i just cant get my head wrapped around how solidworks is done.

but the fusion stuff i do is just for me, and fun mostly.

theres some simple things, that are very limiting, and a deal killer.

my projects i think are very simple for a good cad software. if i run into limitations this early on, i can see it getting past the hobby stage for me

Autodesk Inventor Professional has a comprehensive list of motion joints - in fact, I don't recall ever having a mechanism where the real world Degrees of Freedom weren't covered within the Joint list.

In my experience - the one area of functionality where Inventor is without question a higher level of functionality than SolidWorks is in the area of Dynamic Simulation (Advanced Motion Analysis).

Chad - the part time, temp agency, Gen Z stoner that Autodesk calls "the development team" - is still messing with text-on-a-path, and probably will be for another year or so. After that, he's supposed to work on allowing a driven dimension to be used as a dynamic, parametric input value for stuff, which will probably take him another year or two. His timeline has him tinkering with the Joints system long after The Apocalypse.

nothing on the fusion360 app store would achieve this result?

I realize that my question is nonsense..
