Someone from AD will have to comment on the actual error - I'm not sure what it means or where it's coming from.

I can just offer that my seat-of-the-pants feel is that you're trying to do a slightly unnatural act.

Combine two solid bodies in different components? If I had to speculate, then I'd say this in itself might be the root issue. I don't know that... just guessing.

In a practical sense, what's the real-world application of this? I'm not criticizing, simply saying that if they really are separate *components* (i.e. parts) then I'm wondering if it's a 'theoretical' combination of things just to try to achieve some 3d printing end goal or somesuch. That's all well and good, it just gives context to the kind of workaround we're looking for. I think maybe reordering some component structure might accomplish what you need? Does it have to be a single body? Or are you just trying to manipulate as a single entity?

I'm getting this error when I try to combine two bodies. As far as I can tell the two bodies as intersecting.

Error: outside relationship on wire being deleted
Failed to Boolean bodies together

The file was a solidworks assembly that I exported as a step. I'm trying to combine parts to simplify the model.

To be clear... it *is* possible to combine bodies that live in separate components. (Although the combined body then resides in just one component)

Just wondering what the actual objective is.

That's exactly right actually. I want to 3d print a scale model so I need to combine everything into one body. Then I can change the sizes of certain parts and make it printable.

You don't need to join the bodies in order to create an stl. Just create one master component, then put copies (with Paste/New if you want to modify the copies and not the original) as sub components of the master.

OK, great -

That puts the hole thing in perspective. I'm not hearing an overwhelming need to get the COMBINE function to work, I'm hearing a need to get a printable STL file output, which is slightly different.

Not that it makes it *easy* - there's still something a little weird going on.

Trying to export the 'TR Right Front Spindle Assembly' as an STL to Meshmixer results in a crash - which *suggests* that there might be some geometry thing lurking beneath that needs to be addressed.

Still tinkering. ..

I need to combine all of the bodies so I can make modifications to it. For example, I neeed to fill in a lot of empty space between components. It seems like that would be much easier to do as one body.

Yeah I figured it was something weird like that. It's probably easiest just to find a work around instead of trying to get that particular combine feature to work. Thanks

If you don't mind losing some geometry, then making the error go away is easy.

I suspect it has something to do with the way the threads were exported from SWx.
