Hi Guys

I am trying to build a replica car (life size) from a scale 3d model. i have incorporated into Autodesk 360, and shrink wrapped with Inventor pro to get a .OBJ file (its big at 107MB).

My aim is to import into slicer and then use the slicer curve function to create the cross sections from which i can space to accommodate foam between the spars and enable me to make a 1:1 replica of the car (wood and fibreglass).

My problem comes when in slicer i try and adjust the size of the object to full size - (the actual car is approx 4000 mm long)

Slicer then crashes 😞

Is there a size limit to slicer dimensions ?

( my material is a custom size - i have had the error on material not big enough to map - though it didn't crash)

i have shrinkwrapped as the file is an outline - ie only one face and required shrink wrap to function in slicer

The company gave me a smaller sample which i have shrink wrapped and it works ok!

Is there a way to slice longitudinally in fusion 360 or inventor outside ot the slicer add in ?

Any info greatly appreciated !!!

Ian

Hi Ian,

Real size cars was never in our plans when we started 123D Make, which then became Slicer for Fusion 360. When you get started with an app that handles meshes, you make some assumptions and then work on levels of detail and precision that are consistent with that assumption. Slicer should work ok with sizes that are supported in the current list of stock. I can't guarantee it working as expected over that. It would also create too many slices which may also crash the app when trying to display hundreds of them.

If you made a shrink wrap in Inventor, you can take a SAT file into Fusion and use split body (one command per slice). I know of someone that automated this and can get to some basic stacked slicing with Fusion using solids. I can reach out and ask to share the script.

I will try out your suggestion - if you can provide the script it would be great!.

Many thanks for your support and the use of the product!

Rgds

Ian
