I know how to do this but I have a question. If you use the cut command when creating a body to remove a portion of an existing body. Is the portion you removed gone? Is it important to control the dimensions of the cut?

OP wrote. " If you use the cut command when creating a body to remove a portion of an existing body. "

You used Split, not Cut.

Therefore I think that either additional information should have been requested from the OP (like attach file here)

or

you should have given example of your "solution" (and attached your example here).

My crystal ball says the OP was concerned about Extrude-Cut midplane going through all, should an explicit distance be given, or is it OK to simple drag through?

But then again, the OP specifically mentions Bodies.

If you use the Cut OPTION (not command) when creating a body, then yes, whatever you cut away from another body is gone.

If you use the Split Body command, then no, nothing is gone.
