Rectangular Pattern tool from a cutout corner, stuck

I am trying to use the Rectangular Pattern tool to parametrically replicate a cutout that was created on the corner of a model, and I am not able to do it, I am about 4 days new to f360 so this is definitely a learning curve item so you may have to ELI5..

Here is where I start

I start here and select sketch selecting the top plain on the object closest to me

I sketch using the top of the object closest to me as the plain, defining length and width

I then parametrically define the length and width of my sketch

I define the corners in prep for the extrusion sans the corners

I then define the corners

I extrude my plain down

and this is what I extrude to a new component

when I try to select the corner as a feature, it ends up wanting to select the whole object.

When I try to select the feature being the corner, it selects the whole object.

If I try to select the faces, there are only two faces so not enough to define the whole cutout

If I try to select it by faces, there are only two faces and that is not enough to define the cutout

I can easily do it from the middle of the edge, where I am able to select three faces, or even as a feature, I am just not able to do it from the corner.

If I put the notch in the middle of the edge where I can define 3 faces...I can use the rectangular pattern tool with no issues

Any assistance would be greatly appreciate from someone way more skilled than myself..

1. extrude entire panel

2. create the feature corner cut out

3. rectangular pattern from feature

File > export > save as f3d on local drive > attach to post

@g-andresen Really appreciate the video example, that is great! That is exactly what I need, I think the hook I run into then is if you look in the first images, there are two "supports" that I hide in the latter images. If I extrude the cut with those supports there, then it cuts into those supports as well. Is there a way that I can extrude the cut and tell it to disregard those supports that are hidden so it doesnt cut into their height? (we can stay with this question, the rest is just context because I am sure you are asking, WTH is he doing LOL)

The reason it matters is I am trying to keep everything parametrically attached, if I go to move an object, from what I have seen, it is no longer parametrically attached to the model. Again, only 4 days of learning from videos and research. 😉

HAHAHAHA!!! I had it, and I believe it was working until fusion through and error and said, "Nope, I quit!". What I had done was, I would build the parametric supports from left to right, and then I built the cuts going from right to left, so the cuts were not taking place where there was already another object, re. the supports. It was working, I will have to see if I can reproduce the error.

Export and attach the file. Contenated photos don’t help, browser and timelines do.

Outline the end goal even with your parametrics.

Easier to fix the problem than talk about the symptoms.

This is the error I am getting (No pattern instances could be intersected with the original body. Try adjusting the pattern settings, or changing the selections.😞

I have attached the project file up to right before I added the Rectangular Pattern from the cuts on the right, as soon as I add the rectangular patter, and adjust the total_supports_across user parameter, I get the error.

Got the file. Reading between the lines, you are trying to do in sketches what can be done with parametric bodies.

Reasearch Rule #1.

Questions: why are you cutting the front of the shelf, when the posts under the shelf is a stronger assembly?

Rule #1 in action. Create 2 sketches to build this.

Change parameter values for any of the 7 parameters I used.

File updated since pic was taken. Happy to answer questions.
