Hi Andrew

Thanks for your reply. Yes I want to 3D print the object. Sorry I should have included a picture.

The issue I have is that the recess and fit tolerances are tight, also there is an over hang lip. I've include a pic below.

I need to cut one of the legs vertically to allow me to 'squeeze' the part to firstly fit within the housing and at the same time slot under the overhang.

I might be using the split function incorrectly (as I'm very new to Fusion - or any modelling software actually) but it appears to completely split the body - not allowing you to specify the boundary of the cut plane.

I think I may have found a solution using a Sweep with an unenclosed path and a very fine gap. Now I suspect it's down to the printer tolerance to provide as clean a cut as possible.

Thanks again.

Hi

This maybe covered elsewhere but I can't find a solution.

I have a body that I need to split in order to allow fitting into a confined location. Due to the body being a rectangular hollow I would like to only split one leg of the body to allow me to compress it for fitting.

Does anyone have tips on how I can achieve this? Or is it a function I need to use the Slicing software to achieve?

Many thanks in advance.

TOny

Hi,

Are you talking about a body as in a model you want to 3d print but need to split it in half somehow so that you can

get it into your confined space? It would be very helpful if you posted your model or a picture so that we can have a

look.

Spliting a body is not that difficult. You can simply use a plane to split it where you want. If you need it to have some

strength when you join it back together then that is your problem. The easiest way will be some kind of lip on the

edges of the split that you can insert into one another to make the join. You can get fancy and try to make them lock

together with internal clips which will give some more strength.

Start with a simple plane. Use the plane to make the cut. Create some kind of lip on one piece around the edge. Use a

combine cut to fit the pieces together. Add clips or stiffeners as necessary for extra strength.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi,

If you want to do it in Fusion, this could be one way.

<video-js data-video-id="6360408055112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)

Yes ! I get it. Yes that would work - even if the entire body was cut the the join would be a lot stronger and cleaner.

Thankyou !!! Very much appreciate you taking the time to help.
