Is this even possible with Fusion 360?

I would like to engrave the lines of this SVG into a board. Is this something Fusion 360 can do?

My understanding is that Fusion will interpolate all those lines into a billion-or-so line fragments that will not make you happy. I reckon success is going to involve focusing on creating the major features as distinct elements- the Lat and Long Lines would be super easy to produce in the Sketch Workspace, for example -minimizing the load heaped upon you and Fusion. Likewise for the Continents- attach the image as a Canvas and Sketch the forms as manageable portions in discrete Sketches.

Almost universally, "I've got this SVG" is met with a grimace here- like, say, a social disease; sure, it can be managed, but is often accompanied by unhappiness and disappointment. It doesn't have to be that way- if expectations are adjusted.

Thanks, I started with the continents as an SVG and made all the latitude
and longitude lines as a sketch, but couldn't effectively combine them with
the SVG, and Fusion kept crashing when I tried.

It looks like unless there's a way to select all of the line segments as
countours at once, there is no practical way for Fusion to do this project?

Is there some method for dealing with complicated sketches that I'm unaware
of? Or combining all of the segments in a sketch into a single segment that
can be selected and engraved?

Should you be willing to assist us with some detail, or even the Fusion file, we would all elaborate in a co-operative mindset. Firstly, as @mavigogun has said, it's SVG, for a new person that opens a mind field of questions and or problems.

That's not what you want- what you want is to realize Bodies from the Sketch elements, use that data for production. To that end, you need those Sketches to be manageable. One successful method for confronting "complicated Sketches" was outlined in the previous post. It's like this- you come to me and say, "hey, I've got these 4 lovers that don't know each other, and I'd like to have them all over for a party", and I respond, "don't do it kid", and you say "but I reallllllllly wan-"- me, "good luck with that". You might be skeptical., you might be disappointed- but that's the way it is. (Ya, you could use some program like Inkscape to potentially wrangle and SVG into some contiguous Lines- but you would still be behooved to adopt a divide-and-conquer stratagem.)

Contrary to popular opinions, this is actually a really simple task for Fusion 360:

Import the Svg.
Open the CAM workspace.
Create a new setup.
Create a new Trace toolpath.
Add (tediously) every line segment to the toolpath. Note: Click on the red arrow to change the path direction.

Yep, reading the OP's other posts in the Fusion area, he knows about step 5.

I do believe he is looking to fix Step 5.

Well, it should take less than 30 minutes to select all of the lines for a Trace toolpath. Much less than trying to fix all of the broken perimeters in the sketch. Frankly, the quality of this .svg file wouldn't meet my standard for selling to a client. You should be able to do a lot better by starting with a good image and creating the lines in Fusion 360.

The original question was can engraving this .svg be done in Fusion 360. The answer is yes, easily.

The question that should be asked is whether you should use such a poor quality svg.

I would be more than happy to accept any help and suggestions on how to make a better SVG. This was the first one I've ever made, so I'm unaware of its deficiencies in comparison to others.

If there's a way to do this project without SVG's I'd be happy to hear it as well, I genuinely don't care how I have to do it, I'd just like to finish it. I asked for advice on how to approach the project but received no replies, so I went with SVG as I couldn't figure out how to outline the continents efficiently and remove the polar lines they overlapped.

It looks like my answer is "Yes, it's possible but tedious."

Selecting this many segments by hand seems both absurd and daunting but I guess I'll get started, unless anyone has a better suggestion...

South America took about 10 minutes to rough in with a Control Point Spline. This allows you to fine tune it. With a little effort, you should be able to make a much better design than with that .svg.

On the CAM side, since Fusion 360 recognizes it as a closed boundary, you can create the toolpath for each closed boundary with one click.

Create the latitude and longitude lines in another sketch. Project the continents, islands, etc. from the first sketch. Use these to trim the latitude and longitude lines. Delete the projected geometry when the trims are complete.

p.s. In order to eliminate the control points, I extruded the closed boundary areas, then created a new sketch and projected them. This gives nice clean boundaries for CAM.

First, the sketch must be unfixed (>screencast).

Only when it´s blue you can edit it!

In the screencast I show some operations.

But it takes a lot of work and time.

@etfrench - did you create South America as a single spline, or more than one connected spline? I've found that once you get past maybe 50 fit points or slow, the performance suffers. So, I tend to do these things as several connected splines. Your mileage may vary.

I just clicked away until Fusion 360 ended the spline. It took three splines to do the continent. I didn't notice any performance issues.

@Bstarcraft2: Your .svg file will create an 80mm diameter disk. At that size it may look OK.

At 80mm, I don't believe all those control points really offer any more detail than you could get just using one at each major change in direction.
