It looks like you can enter special characters the same way as AutoCAD, not sure that's any quicker than using the character map though.

Hello!

First time posting here...total newbie. I'm trying to insert text into a sketch and got that figured out. The problem I'm having is I need to use a special character/mark. I want to put in a diacritical mark (I had to look up what it was called...it's the dash above a vowel to indicate a long sound) and can't figure out how to do it. I thought I would just sketch a spline over the letter and extrude it, but this does not work. I can sketch it but can't extrude. I believe it's because the text window interferes somehow.

Is there a way to get this to work?

Thanks, Scot

Left click and hold from left to right just around the diacritical mark to be sure not to get the text box selected. That should work for you. I did a test and it worked for me. But when you swipe over the mark(s) make sure it is the orange selection box and that you select all sides of the diacritical mark.

And make sure its not just a line over the letters. Make sure it has an inside surface that is able to be extruded.

Using unicode characters (ĀāĒēĪīŌōŪū) would work better.

If you're on Windows then <STRIKE>some characters can be entered directly from the keyboard by holding the "Alt Gr" key down and pressing a letter. You can also enter some by holding down the "Alt" key in combination with a sequence of numbers entered from the numberpad. Otherwise</STRIKE> you could try using Character Map.

edit: just tested it and the only option which seems to work in F360 is Character Map.

Thank you all! I ended up using the character map function in Windows 10 and ctrl-V to paste it in. It wasn't the ideal solution as the font I was using didn't have the exact character I wanted.

The other recommendation to insert a sketch didn't work for some reason. I suspect it had to do with the way I made the model and extruded layers. I tried it on a new (simplified) model and was able to get it to work.
