I think, Coil has an option for square and triangular profiles.

Will test this in the morning, but try using a square profile,

then press pull the inside face to break through to the bore.

Might work....

Im currently trying to make a coupling. The desired shape needs to have a coil cut fully through the middle of a cylindar. I create the cylindar and set it to square but need a rectangular shape as the width of the cut away is thin but needs to go deep through the desired part. Ive tried to do cut aways with selecting a sketch to follow the coil sketch but this also doesnt work. the picture shows the cylindar that needs to have a coil cut through the full body. Any help would be much appriciated. cheers

If you want to create a coil with a profile other than the three default options, it becomes a ten minute pain in the rear end. My file is attached below the picture. Open it up, expand everything in the browser, turn on the visibility of everything, back the time line up to the first step, and scroll through it one item at a time. Edit each feature along the way. You should be able to figure out what I did.

I hope this helps. The method provided by @davebYYPCU should certainly work in this particular case. But if you ever want to use some weird profile that doesn't lend itself to push/pulling the bottom down deeper, you'll have to do this.
