Copy and Paste Views/Projections in 2D Drawing Space

It appears that the Drawing space within Fusion 360 has a lot of limitations, compared to any other CAD package. I do understand that this is a work-in progress, but it doesn't appear that there has been much progress as for improvements within the drawing space in the last couple of years...

I have read a few strings, primarily around copy/pasting text boxes (seems like it should be a given, but it's not...). What I am looking for is copy/pasting views/projections, within the same sheet and from one sheet to another sheet. It's not possible to do it within the standard copy/paste features, but is there a macro or add-in that could accomplish this?

Here is my situation. I have a model with a few hundred sub-assembly components, components, and bodies. I am creating a drawing that includes all of the individual pieces that make up a specific sub-assembly. To create a view and projections off of a single component/body, I have to hide the rest of the components/bodies I don't want shown. This is very time consuming. If I could copy and paste the first view I created with a single component (the rest hidden) and then switch which view is visible, this could save a lot of time.

Any tips/tricks to improve this workflow would be much appreciated. Also, does anyone know if this copy/paste issue is in progress and which update may include it?

Hi csaba1589,

You are right, copy/paste of views is not possible. For your case (creating views of a single or small number of components from a larger assembly) the easiest way to add new views is to:

1. Open the design and the drawing (if one already exists)

2. In the Model, select the component(s) in the browser > Right-click > Create Drawing

3. Now instead of Create New, select the existing (open) drawing, and then the Sheet (either create new or select an existing sheet).

Thanks,

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. The workflow you described works much better than the way I am doing it today! I appreciate your help.

I still hope we get the copy/paste feature soon... but for now this works great.

Thanks again,

Does anybody know how to fix this problem? Seems there's no help from Autodesk. This has to be one of the worst programs I have ever used. Please solve this issue Autodesk, 5 years have passed and still no solution. what a Joke!

Hi John, I apologize for my mistake, you are correct. I did not set the "Sheet" option correctly, so it created a new sheet, hence my problem that the already existing component seemed to disappear.

I also found that I can right-click on a (main) component in the drawing view left side (BROWSER) and then select "Base View" which will do what I want without having to go to the original design.

Still, why not make life easier by adding the option copy/past an already existing view? As no one in this discussion pointed my find of selecting the BaseView from the browser inside the drawing, this shows that it is not really obvious/intuitive.

In any case, thanks for your help!
