Cannot select edges for Chamfer

Hi Folks,
I am not able to select the edges for a chamfer to execute a 1.5 mm equal chamfer. There were a few threads regarding the same issue but it was mainly due to the complexity of the model or due to the radical chamfer value but in my case, it is a simple model.

Hi @AgileJohns1411

This is due to the body being set as "unselectable".

You can turn this off by right-clicking the model and clicking "selectable/unselectable".

Same problem here, but could not solve it yet. It's a STL file for 3D printing (PLA) that I'm trying to modify. I just want to add a chamfer to one edge, that's all.

I cannot select any face or edge, there is no edge or face highlighted as I move the cursor. Please help!

Hi,

chamfer needs a solid body

First convert the mesh body into a solid body.
The solid must then be "cleaned up" so that an edge is created that can be chamfered.

Thank you so much, that was it! I converted it into a solid, then chamfered easily the edge I needed, then converted back to STL. Problem is, now it is HUGE and does not fit into the printer 🙂 But I feel like I'm making progress!

PS: if STL files are "unitless", how does the 3D printer know the size of the part?

Great, that it worked
If the size is huge, better to split it. I used to split the bodies and make threads to join the bodies
In some places even snap or slide in groove fittings will also work. I will recommend to check the load and direction of load under stress before choosing slide, groove or threaded option.
