Render: no shadow on white background?

I designed a simple switch and I'd like to make a render of it. Ideally, I'd want the background to be transparent but that's impossible with Fusion 360, so the next best thing is white. Alas, it doesn't work:

If I change the background to a light gray (only modification):

What's up with that?

Hey Nickduino,

When you click on a rendered image in the Render Gallery, then click the Download Image icon, there's a toggle for transparent background. You can then download either a TIFF or a PNG with an alpha channel.

Yes but it hides the shadows as well, that's why I said it was no bueno

did you try turning off the ground plane in the settings dialog?

If I turning off the ground plane, there is no plane on which the shadow can be casted!

(And yes I tried nonetheless)

I want:

a white (or transparent) background
a shadow

Is it possible that Fusion 360 can't do it?

What's more frustrating than a feature not being there is not really knowing and Autodesk won't answer this thread since already three people did...

Same problem here!

I also want to do this and there is no way to do it!

It is unbelievable that Autodesk team has not yet solved this problem, we need darker shadows using solid white background. Is it so difficult to manage this request?

Broken is: Shadows are there when rendered with gray background, but shadows are not there when rendered eith white or transparent background.
Could someone please fix this?

@e11828334 before I asked what needs to be fixed, I tried this out on the model that was posted in this thread. Getting a shadow on a white background worked fine after some experimentation.

Perhaps if you can post your model, I can look into it and see what can be done.

I can't upload the project because of personal reasons. What did you do with the project of the original poster in order to get the shading right? You said you played around a little, can you further explain?

I don't exactly remember, but usually using an HDRI with a smaller light source and less diffuse environment helps creating sharper shadows..

Increasing the roughness of the material of the surface that receives the shadow and sometimes decreasing reflectivity also are viable means.
