Hello everyone.

Sorry if the answer had been given earlier - I truly haven't found it still 😞

The problem:

I've created a model of table semi-permanent POSM-display with custom textures\decals. And now I have to export my project to any file format which delivers (provides) ALL textures\decals and material properties. Exported scene my project partner will import to Unity or Unreal. Key point is to import file with all textures\decals and material properties applied in Fusion. The workflow which involving intermediate import-export into a third-party software to apply textures\decals (which were applied at the native\initial model in Fusion) or to apply textures directly in Unity\Unreal is not appropriate.

Please suggest export file format or any bright ideas to solve my problem without complicating workflow.

Thanks in advance!

Hey shelk85,

The short answer is no, there's no way to export parts with appearance or decal data. The export functions in F360 are generally meant for manufacturing (3D printing, CNC machining, etc.), and exports with this data aren't really useful for those purposes.

Maybe they should be... Just because Autodesk doesn't see the potential of it doesn't mean it is not very useful for those purposes.

Having that export capability is very useful for full color 3d printing and product virtualization/visualization. Looking at Fusion 360's claims to be a product that spans concept to prototype to manufactured part Autodesk should realize the potential for this functionality.

I had your question export it as an fbx file and unity will show it with the textures/decals and treat them as addable graphics. The best way to think of it is your playing a game and you have a sword with multiple decals. You can choose through various ones to place on the sword and that one sticks with it while playing. Unity does the similar thing by separating the object and decals/textures.

I have used the FBX export capability but the textures don't get included in the file. I have to find them manually and then copy them into a folder in my Unity 3D project. After that I have to assign the textures to the materials extracted from the fbx in Unity. It is not a straight forward workflow but it is something. I am still trying to figure out how to map the "Rough" texture of some Fusion materials into Unity's standard material. I am not sure if there is an equivalent standard material property for it.
