Can you share your model ? (export as .f3d and attach)

I've got over 10k forum posts. I might venture a guess that 25% of them are first responses asking people the most obvious thing to do when coming to the forum and report a problem. That would be sharing the model 😉

I am sure I am not alone!

Copy a component (with paste new) and redefine a sketch plane on the copy

I have to say I have grown very frustrated and from reading what I can find in the forums, I'm not alone.

I have a component (body + 5 sketches). I want to make an unlinked copy of that component, move it to a new location (capture position), and then redefine the sketch plane on one of the sketches for the new component to a different face on that component.

Everything I try, it would appear the component is not truly an independent component. After I have the component copied and moved, I select 'redefine sketch plane' on the new component's sketch, the component visually jumps back to the original position (overlaid on top of the source component). Even so, I select the new face, and the sketch does not move to the new face. and the extrusions based upon that sketch disappear.

When I delete the copied component, it prompts with 'this component is referenced by other stuff are you sure?'. How can it be referenced by anything else when I just made a fresh 'paste new' copy?

What am I doing wrong?

--eo

when you edit sketch, you go back in the time line to when that sketch was created. In this case the sketch was created before the capture position.

attaching your model here will help get it sorted.
