I'm not sure if I understood your initial question correctly because I don't see a reason for four bodies. This is what I had in mind:

Hello All,

I'm trying to use the pattern tool on a rounded object, I want to achieve something like this sieve.

I tried to use the circle pattern, but only get the outer edge filled with my pattern but not the whole area. How should this be done, tried to find examples on youtube but so far haven't find one.

Split the round surface, apply the pattern combine join it again.

In some cases you could simply use one ore more circular patterns. But this might not work in this case.

So split the body in four pieces and apply the pattern and then copy the patterned body en combine?

You can also use the pattern tool with other angles, the directions don't have to be 90 deg to each other.
