Hi, I make a lot of parts using foam or ACM. Just imagine a simple U-channel 2" wide with 1" returns from 1/8" material. I don't cold bend it. I v-groove on the bend lines and only have about .020" in material for the bend with almost no radius to it. The bend makes a nice miter that is almost invisible.

Is there a way to model this in Fusion so that I can get the proper cut lines and 3D model for proofing?

Thanks!

I found this video on YouTube which is similar.

I'm not an expert. But did you try to setup a k0 material and to use the flat pattern for your carving process?

Edit: In addition you might want to change the bending properties in the setup, too.

I think the OP is looking for functionality similar to this bend.

Are you referring to the router carving?

Above is a typical example. There is a VERY small amount of material left before the fold. usually .010" - .020". There is basically no radius, none that we care to calculate, that's for sure. These are super easy and require little work or help from Fusion 360. But the project below is MUCH more complicated and Fusion 360 could help a lot with it.

Bear

If nothing like it exists, what would you call it so I can add it to the suggestion queue?

Thanks!

I think you could model as paper-thin material to get flat pattern and use the Bend Lines for creating the router tool path, but you will not be able to model real thickness with real groove cuts. So you will have to be careful to allow appropriate clearances.

I am not familiar with other software tools that might have this functionality, so i cannot make a recommendation on other tools.

I would try a simple box first and see if you can work up a technique.

Yeah, the devil is in the thickness. When we do 1/2" foam core, the bend is actually paper thin, but it takes up 1/2" space.

Thanks for looking at it. If you think of anything I'm all eyes!

fusion sheet metal might have a harder time with some of the more complicated model, like that polar bear.

Sorry it took so long to see this. No, not really. What I have done is use a very thin sheet and offset it the thickness of my material. Not the best set up, but puts the outside of my bends in the correct location.
