Linking components between designs

Hi All,

sometime, when I have to create some small piece of furniture, for instance a small bluetooth speaker, I prefer to model in one design in order to take advantage of projected geometries, duplication patterns etc..

Well, the problem happens when I need to manufacture pieces: I can export single components in an another design, arrange pieces and proceed with the CAM functions. But what if I need to modify my original design? The CAM design is not linked to the original one and I have to start again all the job.

Is there an easy solution?

That is one of the areas the new "derive" functionality will help. You can derive individual components out into their own file in the data panel but with the link to the original maintained.

So if you change the design in the assembly, the external, derived component will update accordingly. That allows you to do all the cam setups and tool paths in that external file and keep this out of your assembly design.
