Hi Asko,

One other thing you might try is export (save as) the component to its own file, then insert it (out of the project browser) at a different level.

This is a rookie mistake, but I missed creating one level of component and would like to learn, how I can fix that after the fact. This does keep occurring, though I moved "create component" leftmost on the toolbar to remind me of it!

I have:

Component tree (messed up)

I want:

- Wheel component brought up (outside from Box) and into a new component that's not created here.

I understand that the Fusion 360 browser tree is not really a tree (it doesn't allow me to move things arbitrarily), but a representation of the timeline.

I have tried:

- Moving the timeline caret to just before "Wheel" was created

- Creating a "Wheelset" component here

- Then I was intending to re-parent the "Wheel component" (move caret one right and right click) to have "Wheelset" as the parent, not "Box" - but there's no option to change that!

I find this weird. Other commands allow their parameters to be edited, and Create > New Component has a "Parent" field. If I only could change that, I could rewind the timeline to the right and carry on..

No way to "edit" the component creation?

What should I do, instead?

Have read e.g. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-design-validate/move-features-into-new-component/m-p/8638261#M184552 but didn't quite understand it.

What I needed to do is move the timeline to the *very* beginning (before creation of "box" component), then the sketch was draggable.

Still didn't manage to move the body but that was less than 1 minute of work since the sketch often is the most important DNA.

After that, I moved the component (and the sketch, body steps) to the right so that the order of creation now is how I want it.

For similar problems, I simply copied the component or assembly and pasted it to the right place with 'Paste New'.

Then delete the source.

Jan

I've found this to be the most suitable workflow as well. The point is in doing paste new. Just paste and removing the original didn't do it.

Fusion 360 is too full of needing to know this kind of "tricks", imho.
