Hello all, im a F360 newbie, have been working with it about a week but not progressing too well. I am struggling with the basics and are clearly missing some fundamentals. Having watched a few tutorials on the web around model aircraft design I started to explore.

The one method that seemed to be best fit for quick fuselage modelling was sweep with guide rail.

I have drawn top and side views and want to create a sweep to form the main body but get various error messages including "cannot calculate sweep frame" and also "Error: The path is not smooth. Try modifying the path so that all edges are connected with tangent continuity. To create a swept shape with a sharp edge, try using multiple sweeps."

Can anyone point me to the right reference for correctly using this method?

Thanks in advance....

I can’t think of a Fuselage I’ve done where Sweep with Rail would work, over the other tools.

Most work on Fuselages start with one or more Lofts, the hardest tool to use for newbies.

More information will get you better answers, attach your file will get you demos.

Might help....

Thanks Dave,

I’ve now installed screencast, will post a demo...

I had started out with the loft method but the sweep seemed to be a quick win to get a good head start coupled with split body.

Will try and post this eve.

Apologies for delayed response, I have been through the basics and intermediate section and also there is a good course on LinkedIn learning, what I’m struggling with is the workflow and best methods to achieve the goal.

My first few projects are essentially taking a 3 view of an aircraft and making the basic 3D model before adding structure. 2 weeks in I’m thinking 1-1 might be a quicker route to getting up to speed.

There seem to be different approaches but as the other reply suggests lofting with formers appears to be the logical approach for aircraft modelling, that in itself is causing me a few issues e.g where the loft doesn’t run to plan and how to tune it for the required result.

Ill eat my words, that will work with a Sweep and Guide Rail for the rear Fuselage.

You are already working in the Patch / surface area, so your windscreen is just that a Patch, (flat plate)

Extrude cut the side profile off both lofts, and patch the hole left.
