Since you say you are a new guy, I would like to point out that Mesh models, and brep models are 2 different animals. Fusion is primary a brep modeler, with the ability to do a few minor mesh functions. (and it doesn't do those very well). If you are new to using fusion, attempting to edit a mesh model is probably the worst, hardest place to start.

There are somethings you can do , but understanding when/how/what can be done requires a good bit of experience with both brep models and mesh models separately. My suggestion would be to get good at making things with fusion from skratch, and also get good at using a mesh editing software. Once you are comfortable using the 2 different types of modelers, you can explore workflows that can accomplish what you are trying to do.

New guy needs some help. I inserted a .stl file into fusion. I need to widen the part. I split the part in two and moved each body 10mm. I now have a 20mm space between the two bodies. I can't figure out how to rejoin the two bodies to make one complete body at the new width. I have attached a pic.

I converted mesh to brep. I have been using Autocad since 2000 but 3d is a completly different animal for me. And you are right making solid models from scratch is a lot easier than manipulating meshes and breps!

Looking at this it is a mesh model, but in this case I would only use it as a visual reference to redesign it with the native solid modeling tools in Fusion 360.

You can create mesh sections to get cross section sketches of the geometry, but I am not sure how useful that is in this case.

What you can do is to convert this to a BRep. The you can use vertices of the mesh to define 3 point plans on which you the could sketch. This is only one approach.
