I'm trying to learn 360. I bought the Fusion 360 Basic Tutorial by Autodesk. On page 22 and 23, I follow the directions. I have all the lines drawn according to the pictures. My drawing is 0.6 above the X axis. When I get to #17 on page 23 and select Diameter Dimension and put in 1.2, my drawing jumps to 1.2 above the X axis and my drawing on my screen isn't the same as the picture in the book. The 1.2 dimension isn't 0.6 above and below the X axis. What am I doing wrong?

I'm 73 years old and this is getting rather overwhelming. I just took a screen shot and can't find it on my computer. I'm running Windows 10 and it says it's in One Drive. Now do I have to set up another program that will frustrate me even more? I'm going to take a break from bothering you until I can figure out whether I even want to continue with 360. If I read the Autodesk Fusion 360 Basics Tutorial Book and follow the instructions in the book and it doesn't work on my computer, what's the point of even trying? I can open the file I just sent you, in Fusion 360 on my computer and it runs for me, why doesn't it run for you. Maybe I'm just an old dog that can't learn new tricks!

I'm back and guess I'm a glutton for punishment. If you're 62, you probably understand the frustration of a baby boomer like me. Let's start with getting on the same page. Do you have the Autodesk Fusion 360 Basics Tutorial book? If so, I'm stuck with Tutorial 2 on page 20. Let's try another attachment. I've drawn what's in the book and saved what I was working on up to instruction 16. Instruction 17 (where you put in Diameter Dimension) is where I'm having the problem. When you put in what they tell you (1.2 into the value box), my job jumps up from 0.6 above the X axis to 1.2 above the X axis. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My saved project is named Second Job.

Forgive me if I'm wrong here, but it sounds like you haven't been working on computers almost every day for thirty years like some of us have. There are, of course, going to be a multitude of things that seem trivial and obvious to those of us who have, which are going to be new and perhaps confusing to you.

But don't be discouraged. It just takes time. I'm not specifically talking about the Fusion 360 software, although it takes time also. I'm talking about everything.

For example, it's pretty common that a software program has a File menu. It's typically somewhere in the upper left corner of the program's window. This menu will usually contain the basic file management task that are applicable to the program, such as Open, Save, Print, Export, and other stuff like that. Not all programs adhere to this convention, but most do, if it's applicable anyway.

I will suggest that you not only attempt the tutorials, but also just take fifteen minutes to click on every menu, and just read every option available. Expand every menu and hover your cursor over each item contained therein to see a "tool tip" pop up with a description of what each one does. Explore the menus down at the bottom/center of the window to see what's controlled down there by those icons.

I apologize if I've aimed too low in my suggestion. Perhaps you've already got a feel for everything. But I thought it might help.

Thank you. You aimed low, because that is where I'm at with Fusion 360. I appreciate all the help I can get. And I know what you're talking about. In your video tutorial above, you clicked on "edit sketch". I saw where it was on your screen, it wasn't there on my screen. After clicking around on stuff, I found it and it worked just like you showed me.

Thanks

Another stumbling block. I'm learning to create a cylinder. 1.2 in diameter and 4.0 in long. Called Third Job. I'm trying to cut a rectangular groove to accept a woodruff key. Made the cylinder, installed the 3 lines as per directions. Right line 0.221, bottom line 0.441 and left line 0.211 as in the tutorial book. When I click on the Coincident button on Constraints and the two end points at the edge of the circle, I get "Failed to Solve". What am I doing wrong? Hopefully the file will attach to this e-mail.
