Thin Extrude - Draft

When using a thin extrusion to create a reinforcing rib on a long, slender plastic part, the draft angle applied during the extrusion process is only affecting one side of the rib. How can I ensure that both sides of the rib are drafted correctly?

Below are some images that show a simplified representation of what I'm experiencing.

Try setting the rib as symmetric, maybe the draft will be applied, both sides in this scenario.

first create a thin extrusion and then the taper with the draft tool

(view in My Videos)

If I remember correctly, the taper option for thin extrusions has always resulted in a sloping extrusion and not a tapering of the profile.

Yes, but I have questions. I asked the modeling developers to take a look, because I fail to see the connection between taper for regular extrude and just leaning the thin extrude in a direction using "taper", which is more like "send this off along a vector" but not "taper".

@Phil.E As a mould maker I lean towards (pardon the pun😄) having a drafted (Tapered) result rather than an angled web. Might be a case for a checkbox to have draft or angled extrusion?

Agreed.

Here's an example where draft is critical, and it covers 100% of the backside surfaces of a design.

A design from a former life. Plastic in-wall speaker frame. Look at all the thin extrude.

Another problem is that with thin extrusions the connection to the base is lost on one side when the taper option is active.

Yes this solution do work, but i was trying to avoid clicking so many surfaces and apply the draft individually as in my original file there are around 170+ faces.

@g-andresen I tried some other methods. I think Paint and Freeform selection style might be helpful if nearly every face is a draft target, they are a little more precise than window select.

Window selection tip: Use left to right direction to achieve "only objects entirely within selection window"
