For a desktop model, size unknown, the canvass will do nicely, despite the obvious errors.

Aligning the canvass takes a bit of practise. Using it as a guide, take the longest curves as accurate and build outside > in.

Project > Intersect is your bread and butter. Collect existing references into empty sketches, and then snap to the purple articles. They are consumed as you build the sketch, sometimes become black. Keel outline rail sketch used in the loft is a perfect example. Two purple dots and a line.

@wersy who says any rib profile is accurate?

Might help….

I am trying to make a model of my boat. I have the top view with lines, a side view with ribs and a front view with ribs.

I have aligned the images up, and made sketches of all the ribs and used the move tool to move them to the right X, Y and Z positions. The model looks good, but when I try to use the loft tool, and use some of the sketches as rails, I get the message the rails dont intersect with the ribs.

How can I get the sketch lines from ie. the X axis to join/intersect with those drawn on Y and Z axis?

Another thing is that When I have created a sheet metal loft on som of the ribs, I cannot use the thicken tool, so I cannot create body's?

When editing the sketch, it's Create > Project > Intersect.

Then you connect the purple dots.

You should consider less ribs and water lines, until you have a smooth hull skin, then populate the ribs in that shell for accuracy.

Might help....

Before you make too much work of it, what do you want it to be in the end?
If it's going to be a wooden model built on frames, you can finish it quickly.
If it's going to be a 3D printed boat, then it can be difficult - depending on how accurate you want it to be to the original.

Wow!! Are you willing to share your file and explain how you did this so fast?

I will upload and share the file I have at the moment later on today. I have managed to get the thicken on the loft. My problem was I had to reverse normal to do that (no idea why).

I seem to stumble from one difficulty in the other, but gradually it starts to resemble the real thing. I probably do things the wrong way, or there are better ways to do it.

The stern is really difficult especially with how the rudder part attaches to it. Here are some detailed photo's.

Thanks a lot in advance!

General plans of the shipyard were used for this. The hulls were made of solid wood. Negative templates were made of the frames and the wooden block was worked by hand accordingly. After fine sanding, the result was ships of the highest quality.
The customers were shipping companies.

That is what my question is all about in the first place. I want to know how to line up and connect the dots together in the X Y and Z space.

I know it is a complicated model, and the drawings are small and might not line up properly. But I am wondering how one can get the vertical ribs to intersect with the horizontal waterline planes.

I have now this model: https://a360.co/3TUcnQ4 (it is a shareble autodesk project file link, you should be able to open it like this?)

It does resemble the true thing, except for the transom part around the waterline, and because lines dont intersect, there is some kind of wobble in the transom I cannot get rid of.

But Im getting close an learning a lot 🙂

Just compare this one waterline.

The difference to yours (blue cross section) is far too much.

I know it is not true to that line. But if I kept me to the drawn lines on the plan, there was a strange bulge around that part. I tried removing that bulge by editing that line, and added the extra (guessed) line above that one until it sort of came close.

But is it even possible to get the dots together and use the vertical ribs (seen from front and back) together with the lines in the horizontal planes?

I have tried now with a loft between each horizontal line, but wasnt able to connect to rails (ribs) because there are not intersections
