Tangents

Hello All,

trying to use tangents to add a cylinder to an existing body. I am failing. My issue is that the body face I want to add the cylinder to is not at perfect 0,90,180 etc. When I add the cylinder it is at 0 degree but the face is at 70 lets say. So how would I accomplish this scenario.

This is a pretty easy problem, but before getting to your problem statement - I see that Sketch3 (your first sketch) is not fully defined with many near tangent arcs that I suspect you really intended to be tangent.

Is that the case?

The primitives aren't parametric. Most of us here suggest not using the primitives (like cylinder). And definitely not move.

can you take a screen shot and point out where you need to place a cylinder?

Hello All,

@TheCADWhisperer I first came here asking how to make a latch. And you pointed me to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZ9yxoiFlqI (20 Min mark approx) so tried to implement what he was doing but i see it's all perfect 90's with respect to origin.

@laughingcreek Screen shot provided...Also I did use move a few times to get the cylinder at other end to go where i want but thats what i knew at that time...Also in my screen shot it was a cylinder that i cut out to get the piece i need to create the latch.

Please remember this is my first ever design and much of it is probably not perfect. I think most of it is free hand traced (i know is like cheating) from canvas and then 3d printed for fitment. Sorta new to 3d Printing and Cad of any kind...but love the Hobby so far.

best to use ortho planes when ever possible. but when it's not, define your own construction plane. in this case a "plane along path", which in turn allows use to use the process Lars is using in the video. see attached.

edit sketch 48 to change the geometry of the latch.
