Thanks. I'd have never have got that! I was just looking for a simple toolpath to do the work 😄 I'll give that a try.

Is there anything like a 3d trace toolpath. I've got the following leaf design and I'm running a 3d adaptive followed by a parallel to finish the back of the leaf.

I'd then like to cut around the edges but it isn't a 90 degree vertical toolpath so I can't use the 2d trace. I've tried most of the 3d tools such as Contour, Ramp, etc.. However, none seem to do what I want. The 3d Contour works across the piece at fixed Zs. I'd like to cut around the shape following the Z contour so it creates a smooth clean cut and using a number of stepdowns to maintain the 3d shape.

I've attached the file. The toolpath is the back setup. I've disabled some of the toolpaths I've tried.

The Project toolpath appears to do what you want. You may have to create another thicker dummy body in order for it to completely mill the outline.

p.s. To get multiple step downs, you could use the Split Body command to create a separate body for each step down.

Here's a little screencast showing the 3d Project toolpath on a body created by offsetting the bottom face 1mm, then thickening it 1mm. (Only the original body is shown in the screencast.)

Thanks. I gave that a try but it seems like it just cut the part. I wanted to finish the steep sides using similar paths all the way up the sides.

I can't find a toolpath that will do that. Like a 3d contour but following the path of the leaf shape rather than just fixed Zs

The Project toolpath only makes one pass at the top of the body (on this particular model). In order to simulate paths with step downs, use the Split Body command to create new bodies.

I found the flow toolpath on the multi-axis seems pretty close to doing what I wanted without too much work. I've not tried to actually cut the path yet to see if it works on 3axis.
