I've been having problems with performing boolean type operations when working with complicated meshes that were converted to solids in Fusion 360. Here is an example of the type of model I'm talking about:

https://www.printables.com/model/1014330-moai-twist-impossible-passthrough

This one wasn't too bad because the mesh was relatively simple. I recently tried to do this same type of boolean operation with the Goddi Torso sculpture and Fusion crashed repeatedly. I dialed down all the visual things, put the program in the most simple display mode. Also reduced the mesh before I converted it but still had to chop it up into quadrants and convert to solid one by one before I could get the entire model into a solid state. The boolean operations were even worse. For the twist/spiral shape that should run in the center of the model, I had to chop the model into 12 pieces and cut the shape out one by one for it to work.

Is there an easier way to to do this in fusion? Should I process the mesh in a different program like Blender before importing into Fusion or will that do nothing?

Thanks for your time!

converting a complicated mesh to a solid in fusion is almost never going to be the way to go (hedging my bets here by saying almost. for a complicated mesh it's really never. )

for the given example, I would bring in the mesh (doing nothing to it conversion wise) and position it relative to the origin. using the mesh as a visual reference, model the shape you want to cut out as a solid. convert that solid to a mesh (in fusion parlance, tessellate). and then do the Boolean operations purely in the mesh workspace.

I don't know why that solution didn't occur to me earlier but it worked. I still had to reduce the meshes and the operations were a bit slow but manageable and didn't crash Fusion once. Thank you!
