How to round the top of this model

Hi,

I've just started using Fusion 360 and I'm trying to design a part for an old motorbike. It's almost ready but I'm stuck at rounding the top of it. As you can see in the picture below it's got a flat top. I'd like to make it rounded 1mm further from the top. See the blue lines as reference.

How could I make this?

Depends on the actual geometry in the file, but looks like a revolve half the top face, 180 degrees,

I have done 90 degrees here to see that each of your semi circles are not ellipses, can't tell from here

If not semicircles, revolve will not work, and with more work, your blue lines as sketch > Surfaces, it will be a loft....

Have you tried a giant fillet along the whole top edge? It's not elegant, but it might create the feature you're looking for here.

@davebYYPCUthanks! half revolve looks like a good start. Now I need to make sure the half revolve is 1mm in height, so the semi circle highlighted in blue (its 2.25mm in height now) is scaled down a bit.

The height of the semi-circle on the other end is already 1mm as the circle itself is 2mm in diameter.

Ok, your 1mm at the big end, means not a single revolve, and due to the geometry, will be

one revolve and 2 lofts. (could not make a single loft work without even more set up)

Make sketches to have these articles, Sketch on the top face, (project the face) and join the four straight lines.

Sketch half ellipse 1mm high on the big end, (1), and a quarter ellipse on the centre line (3)

Revolve the small end was 90 - 4.972 degrees.

Loft the front round face, and the half Ellipse (1), using the quarter ellipse as the rail.

With those two done, hide the sketches, and Loft 2, by clicking on the inside faces of the loft and the revolve.

Set whatever weight on the Patch tangency that you want.

BTW - I would do the entire model very differently.

My sketches would be fully defined and fully parametric for easy editing.

I have a question, how did you make sketch 4, and what happened to the first 3?

i kept getting Loft errors, until I chased the origin of Sketch 4.

My response was the result of not being able to Loft it in one feature,

However the Patch result has bypassed my problem, not seen that before.

To be honest I have no idea. Probably the first 1-3 sketches were garbage and I deleted them.

I'm just clicking all over the place trying to make the object 🙂
I'll spend some time watching tutorials to at least be aware of the basics. This tool is pretty powerful. Would be a great extension to my 3D printing experience.

Yeah something like that. Except the top and bottom are not parallel. There's about a 10° slope on the top. Check out my previous images.

Yup, we all started like that, new toy to get what you want done,

however, planning and structure takes effort, you will get bitten by Fusion, without it.

I could not Loft the top piece with what I considered my normal workflow, even to the stage of a rebuild off Sketch 4. Then I found Sketch 4 had no foundation.

As you progress picking up the hints and tips that abound in here, best advice I have seen so far,

blue sketch lines should keep keep you awake at night, followed close by

Rule # 1.

Your first Loft was so nice, I could not bring myself to change Sketch 4, and had to live with it, my end.....
