topic Bend Sheet Metal on an edge that is already bent in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

I am trying to bend an edge of this part after it has already been bent.

The images below will explain better. I basically want to do the long 180 degree bend in the middle, but also bend the edges in along that already bent edge. It keeps giving me an error when I try. I know this is possible IRL because I am holding a part that is doing this, I just can't make it happen in Fusion.

How will you manufacture? Laser cut and brake press only?

Edit: The area along the edge of the first 180 degree bend may be able to formed using a rolling method but Fusion does not support this type of sheet metal work. You will just have to skip the first bend edges for the side bends.

Please attach your model. If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

So I just ended up changing the design a little bit since I couldn't get it to work. I like how it ended up!

But I am having an issue where when I click to flatten the part and get the bend lines, the middle areas are not going down and it's acting as if they are not bent.

If I go back on the timeline to before I do the 180 degree bend, it doesnt have this issue. But then of course my flat file is missing the lines for that bend. I basically just had to download the DXF from before and after the 180 bend and combine them to get all the bend lines in the DXF for manufacturing, which is fine. I just can't have my 2D drawing from Fusion because it also shows those middle tabs as always bent and wont flatten them.

Only thought is can you create a copy of the body in another component while it's unfolded, convert that copy into a sheet metal part then unfold again? <STRIKE>I'd use boundary fill set to New Component to create the copy</STRIKE>. I found it easier to create the second sheet metal component at the start then use boundary fill with that component active to copy the first unfolded body.

The copy of the unfolded part seems to work. You need to create 2 components before you start, one for the finished fully bent part and one for the copy to create the fully unfolded part. I've attached a sample design, if you have any problems creating the same can you share your design as an f3d?

This shows the fully bent part and the copy that need the second unfold. You can also create a flat pattern from the copy.

Flat pattern.
