Morning All.

I am trying to make a cut that is putting the curve on a guitar neck. The shape gets wide along the neck, I would like to cut a smooth radius from one end to the other where the width is wider.

Can anyone suggest a way to achieve this? I have pasted a screencast in to show what I mean.

Best Regards

Colin

Hi @colhart -

I can't see your screencast anywhere - but I'm familiar with guitar necks - and from your description, it sounds like you should investigate the loft command in Fusion 360. This is a command that lets you "extrude" from one shape to another, with a smooth transition between the two. The software will attempt to do that anyway.....

You'll have the easiest results if you have two similar shapes with a large distance between them. Similar shapes means: the same number of sides, same numbers of corners on the profile, and the orientation of both profiles the same....

Now - you CAN and usually DO use different shapes, with different numbers of sides, and the orientations DO change, but with increasing complexity - and decreasing space between the two profiles, it gets "harder" for the software to manage the transition. There are a bunch of options designed to help with such situations, and also just to "tweak" the transition to your liking....experiment with these to get a feel for it.

Also - you are by no means limited to only two profiles.....you can add as many as you want. For example: you could transition from a circle to a square, to a triangle, if you so wished.

For your guitar neck - I expect it will be fairly simple, as you are likely to have two fairly similar profiles to describe the shape of the neck, with a fairly large distance between the two.

Just try it out.

Here's a YouTube Video with detailed instructions about lofts....its pretty good.
