I did not use patterns because the shelves are not spaced evenly. So I have parameters for each shelf height.

I will try and use combine and see how that works.

I "solved" this in the end by drawing the sketch for the lap joint and then using the "dimension tool" to set the distance from the origin to the bottom left corner of the lap joint. For now this works. Of course I don't know what I don't know, so problems may crop up as I move through the design. It is a good exercise though.

Thank-you for your help. I have another problem that I am creating another post for now.. bit-by-bit towards the end..

Caveats.. I am new to Fusion 360. I am sure I am not looking at this problem in right way. I have searched.

I am trying to place a lap joint for stretchers using parameters. varBottomStretcher, varMiddleStretcher etc. I have sketched and extruded the vertical piece of wood, all parametrically. I grounded the vertical. Now I am trying to place the lap-joints and stretchers based on variables, but I can't workout the best way to say the bottom left of this lap-joint is varBottomStretcher from the origin. Once completed this component will be copied 4 times, one for each corner.

Can be done, but we can’t see what you want, or how things are currently set up.

It consists right now of a single 2"x4"x8' Post.

The sketch that is on the face of the 2x4 is rectangle I want to offset/move vertically by a parameterized amount. It will then be cut into the face of the 2x4 by (thickness/2)

Saving your file on this computer has been failing - not our fault - reported.

However the description tells the story. Pattern features not sketches.

Cut the first Extruded cut. Pattern the feature with your parameter for spacing.

you could import / create the rails with cuts already on them, and Combine cut the post with them, when positioned - in one go.

Might help....
