topic Re: Changing version tag at the end of name? in Fusion Design, Validate & Document Forum

This indicates that the design was exported and then uploaded.

When you export a design it adds the tag. It does this to indicate which of the potentially many historical versions this represents. If you are exporting a design, it might be helpful to know what it is exactly.

The export dialog has an editable field for file name.

After editing

Another thing you can do is change the name of the file in the data panel. Once the version label is removed it won't come back unless the design is exported and imported again with the version label.

I'm curious about how often you see this. How often is export part of your product design lifecycle? Typically Fusion designs do not need to be exported and uploaded in the context of a team-hub. Just wondering what it is that drives this activity at your organization.

Is there a way to change the automatic version tag (v1, v2, etc.) added to the project name when saved?

We use a different version naming convention (Version > Iteration > Revision, eg. "Name 1.2.3"). Adding the "v_" is kind of annoying and causes confusion. I would simply like to change it to "s_" for save.

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm not sure exactly where you are seeing this. Can you show a picture?

Background info:

Version number is not part of the design name unless you export the design. Inside Fusion, it is shown for your reference to know which historical version you are working on, and not meant to be part of the design name.

This cannot be changed to say Rev1 instead of v1.

Thank you for your response.

Here is exactly where I am seeing it, which appears to be part of the name, and as you said, it adds the tag automatically to the file name when exported. I would simply like to disable the tag (not the save history), but it appears its not possible right now. Adding a tag to the name is not helpful to me. "v1" means something different to our organization, and does not refer to the save history.

@Phil.E wrote:

I'm curious about how often you see this. Just wondering what it is that drives this activity at your organization.

I work at an additive manufacturing facility, and many of our clients/partners use various CAD software. I often need to export as a .step file for Rhino and SolidWorks users.

For example, we frequently work with an architectural modeling shop that only accepts .step files. They request a remodel of a 1:400 scale building to be printed in SLS Nylon. I will import some kind of reference model (eg. a mesh export from Revit), then I will create a model in fusion and export as a .step for review. This will be named "model 1.1.1" (version 1, iteration 1, rev 1).

The tag in fusion isn't a huge issue, I was just wondering if there was a simple way to disable it.

Thank you so much for your thorough response!

-James
