Hi all,

Apologies if this is covered, I did try to search for it.

I have a parametric model of a set of drawers within a carcass.

My parameters are based around Height, Width and depth of the carcass.

I want to use the existing height of the drawer as a named parameter (The height was extruded from a sketch allowing a parametric distance from the base board face, and a parametric distance from the drawer above)

I can use [H_Carcass - base_thickness - top_thickness - (Drawer_clearance*3) to derive the height of the drawer, but being able to use a measurement as it is in the model would be much simpler and remove the likelihood of user error by me missing something in the equation.

See image below.

Thanks

Thank you for your constructive feedback, you truly exemplify the definition of a "mentor"

I am very new at fusion, and am learning as I go. So with the carcass height being the defining limit in the model, how would you reference the height of the lower drawer without having to remove the other parametric thicknesses that limit the drawers height?

To give more details

The height, width and depth of the carcass are the main determining factors of the design.

Thickness of the base and top are parametric to allow for differences in thickness

There is a carpet allowance parameter to work with different thicknesses of carpet wrapping the structure

There is a slide out table that allows for different thicknesses to be used if there is an issue with the height of the drawer slides

And there are drawer clearance parameters that can be set to widen or tighten the gaps between the drawer body and carcass.

Height of the carcass, subtracting various multiples of these parameters give the drawer height. I would like to set that height as a parameter through model measurement than typing out the expression

What you're after is driven dimensions and they have been requested a long time ago on the idestation here. Yes they would be very useful but easier said than done, read through the thread for @jeff_strater 's replies for info on why.

the hopeful news is that we have prioritized "driven dimensions in equations" as a goal for this year. I can't make any promises of a delivery date, but it feels like we are more serious about it this time. I also know that I've said that before and been proven wrong. We do recognize the importance of this.
